Title |
Landscape of a basin of rice paddies, northeast view, H73
|
Description |
Description provided by photographer Roy Simonson reads: "The basin of Taira muck and Akamaru loam immediately west of the village of Taira, east coast of Okinawa across from Shana Wan with cutover uplands beyond it. The muck covers all but the margins of the basin, now in rice paddies (tambo to Okinawans) with the plants recently established. The burned forest beyond the basin is on Red-Yellow Podzolic soils from marine sediments, whereas the skyline consists of Lithosols from sandstones and phyllites. People in the paddies are pulling weeds and scattering fertilizer."
