Title |
Students with giant beetle and giant bean, University of Maryland, circa 1891-1905
|
Description |
Two Maryland Agricultural College students, the "bug boys," posed as if conducting a scientific exploration of the natural world, circa 1891-1905. On the left, a student in a cadet uniform crouches down to examine a giant artificial plant and giant bean with seeds visible. On the right, a student in a suit uses a net to hunt a giant papier-mache beetle affixed to the tree trunk beside him. The giant beetle model, constructed by French anatomist Dr. Theodore Louis Jerome Auzoux, was used in teaching entomology.
