Phil Rosenthal, guitar; Tom Gray, bass; John Duffey, mandolin; and Ben Eldridge, banjo rehearsing backstage as Don Hamerman (visible in mirror along with Duffey and Eldridge) photographs the group, likely at the Birchmere in Alexandria, Virginia, circa April 1978. The Seldom Scene, a Bethesda, Maryland bluegrass band has been a prominent part of the Washington, D.C.-area bluegrass scene since the early 1970s. Hamerman was then a staff photographer for Unicorn Times, a monthly performing arts periodical in Washington, D.C.
