This is a Board of Regents minutes document noting the admission of Hiram Whittle on January 31, 1951. Hiram Whittle was the first African American undergraduate student who began classes in the spring semester of 1951. The NAACP initially helped him in the admission process but Whittle enrolled before the case was finished. He studied electrical engineering and lived in a dormitory near Ritchie Coliseum but transferred to a school in New York before he completed his degree at the University of Maryland.
