Title |
Landscape of Conical Hill, G128
|
Description |
Description provided by photographer Roy Simonson reads: "Landscape of Regosols from calcareous clays with a basin of associated Alluvial soils in foreground. One thatched roof in foreground and a village beyond the little plain. High point in hilly uplands in distance is Conical Hill, one anchor of the Japanese Naha-Shuri-Yonabaru line so stoutly defended for several months. This hill was taken by the 27th Division and permitted the flanking of the defense line, after which the campaign lasted less than one month."
