Description provided by photographer Roy Simonson reads: "Terraced area of red Latosols from andesitic agglomerate a short ways north of Ngerekai in a hilly landscape. The terraces are reported to have been here prior to Spanish occupation of the island four centuries ago. A few of the terraces were used by the Japanese, but essentially none are in use now. Grass, burned frequently by the Palauans, and scattered pandanus cover the land now. Seven terraces on the near slope, three on the far one, rock outcrops at top of hill in distance."
