Title |
Seaweed stacks covered by straw mats on a Kamakura beach, G51
|
Description |
Description provided by photographer Roy Simonson reads: "The beach at Kamakura, Japan with brown seaweed in small stacks covered by mats of rice straw. Some areas of seaweed spread out to dry appear in the middle distance. The dried seaweed is used in soups and stews chiefly but may also be cooked as we cook asparagus. Beyond the beach lies an upland in which road and railroad cuts stand vertically in the volcanic ash, as happens in loess."
