Portrait (bust, 3.5''x5'') of Herbert Clarke, showing medals on uniform
|
Description |
The cornetist Herbert Lincoln Clarke (1867-1945) joined Gilmore's Band in 1892, just before the bandleader's death. Clarke, however, soon found work with Ellis Brooks' Band and then with the newly formed band of John Philip Sousa. In 1917 he retired from playing and led his own ensembles, including the Anglo-Canadian Concert Band of Huntsville, Ontario and the Long Beach Municipal Band in California. No photographer or date.
