First Maryland Regiment, Official Headquarters, Fort Frederick, Maryland, circa 1960-1980. Caption reads: "This column of soldiers marching by platoons are carrying their muskets at the 'Shoulder Position' as proscribed in Gen. Von Steuben's manual of 1779. The men are wearing the late war uniform (1779-1783), blue faced with red for the states of Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Delaware. The 13 star-13 stripe flag - a reproduction of the original in the State House, Annapolis Md. This flag was said to have been carried by the Maryland Line at the Battle of Cowpens. Maryland Flag, the Md. Assembly stated it was 'a large black and gold flag made of material to catch the wind.' Most military flags of that period were made large (6 x 6 ft.) so they could be seen through the battle smoke." Postcard number: S-74404-1.
