Front caption reads: "Journeymen Bakers' and Confectioners' Union #114 prepares to march in the Portland Labor Day Parade, 1902. In the early years of this century Labor Day Parades were grand affairs in which unions would march by contingent, dressed in the uniform or work clothes of their trade, and usually carrying a banner or some other devices to let the whole world know just who they were.
