MARC train, Baltimore, Maryland, circa 2002-2010. MARC stands for the Maryland Area Regional Commuter. APTA stands for the American Public Transportation Association. Caption reads: "MARC#53. This 3000 horsepower/16 cylinder turbocharged locomotive, originally built by EMD in 1970 and remanufactured by Boise Locomotive in 1994 to MARC's GP40WH-2 specification, was obtained a part of a 19-locomotive procurement. It and the other diesel locomotives in its class (numbers 51-69) will help maintain MTA/MARC's position as a leader in commuter rail transportation well into the twenty-first century."
