Description |
Handwritten letter and envelope from Polish citizen, Miedzeszyn-Julianow, requesting medical supplies from the AFL through CARE, 1949. ---TRANSLATION: "Miedzeszyn-Julianow August 12, 1949 Highly Respected Sir! My mother has just undergone a surgery during which the so called malignant cancer tumors were removed. The surgery was seriously considered because blood transfusion was done twice to her. She is very weak especially her heart. Given that I would like to request that you send me "korzeniny" (a kind of medicine) to strengthen my mother's heart. My mommy when she was well helped me in my life and now I am forced to work and study and it is extremely hard. But with God's help we live somehow. Once I turned to you when my daddy passed away but I have not received an answer so far. Life is extremely hard but I do not want to drop out of school because it is going to give me opportunity for a better life. Please do not misunderstand me, but I have no other choice as I want to save my mother and the medicine is not available in our pharmacies. I only have one mother. I remain with respect and please forgive my openness and directness towards your respected self. Janusz Kurylowski Miedzeszyn-Julianow Boczna from Paderewskiego Street Falenica, Poland" --- For complete collection information, visit the full finding aid at http://hdl.handle.net/1903.1/42557
