Former residence of commanding officers, Fort Monroe, Old Point Comfort, Virginia, circa 1951-1980. Caption reads: "Fine old building near east gate inside the fort. Built in 1819. Formerly residence of commanding officers of Fort Monroe. Lafayette stayed here briefly in 1824 when he revisited the United States as a guest of the nation. Lincoln stayed here in May 1862 when he came to inspect the military operations in the Hampton Roads area." Postcard number: 2668.
