Artist's depiction of General Lee at the surrender, Appomattox, Virginia, circa 1915-1925. General Robert E. Lee on horseback and surrounded by infantry. Caption reads: "Gen. Lee at the surrender, April 9, 1865. At that point found himself in face of a body of infantry, about eighty thousand. Without further resistance, General Lee sends a flag to General Grant, requesting an interview for the arrangement for the terms of surrender." Postcard number: 61207.
