Voter registration - ILGWU Local 99 and CORE clothing drive, 1963
|
Description |
Caption reads: "Hundreds of pounds of clothing have been gathered by Ladies' Garment Workers Local 99 to aid the more than 20,000 Negroes dropped by Mississippi local officials from federal surplus commodities rolls. The Congress on Racial Equality (CORE) charges the action was in retaliation for efforts of Negro citizens to register for voting. Inspecting the clothing, from left, are Douglas Levin, manager of Local 99; Elizabeth Phillips, a local member; Marvin Rich and Bob Gore, with CORE community relations programs; James Arkord, Local 99 committee member."
