The Old Butterfly Factory, near Pawtucket, Rhode Island, circa 1907-1914. Postcard number: 10980. The Old Butterfly Factory was a cotton mill that was constructed by Stephen Hopkins Smith in 1811. It is called the butterfly factory because a pair of stones that were laid together on one of the outer walls resembles a butterfly.
