Buck, winner of the Pulitzer Prize and the Nobel Prize for literature. Pearl S. Buck and John Steinbeck and the only two persons to ever win the Pulitzer Prize and Nobel Prize. She is the only woman to ever win both great honors. Pearl S. Buck, born Pearl Sydenstricker, June 26, 1892, in this house which was built by her great grandfather, Mynheer Johann Stulting, of Dutch descent. When only 4 months of age, her missionary parents returned to China with her. She learned to speak Chinese before she learned English. Pearl S. Buck won the Pulitzer Prize for her book, The Good Earth, in 1932, and the Nobel Prize for literature in 1938." Postcard number: 581380; Message included.
