Belle Isle and Falls of James River, Richmond, Virginia, circa 1907-1914. Caption reads: "Belle Isle and Falls of James River, Richmond, Va. (View from Hollywood Cemetery.) On this island the Confederacy established its largest military prison; Federal prisoners being housed in tents, surrounded by stockade. Now occupied by the O.D. Iron & Nail Works. The granite formation of the island affords material for the operation of extensive stone-crushing plants. In the distance and on the opposite side of the river is presented a view of Manchester, a thriving City, connected with Richmond by numerous bridges." Postcard number: A-5478, 29.
