The Avenue and Ocean Hotel, Newport, Rhode Island, circa 1936. Caption reads: "From a pamphlet printed about 1860. The Avenue is a parade of two miles long, flanked all the way with mansions and charming villas. The Ocean House is a huge amorphous, pagoda, factory-like structure, where the cottagers come and hear the Germania play and hop in the parlour, then disappear into the magnificent mystery of cottage life."
