Entrance to Jefferson Davis casemate, Fort Monroe, Old Point Comfort, Virginia, circa 1951-1970. Caption reads: "Jefferson Davis casemate, Fort Monroe, Old Point Comfort, Virginia. Entrance to the chamber (casemate) in south wall of Fort where Jefferson Davis was imprisoned in May 1865. Later the Confederate president was removed to Carroll Hall in the northwest bastion of the Fort on recommendation of Dr. John J. Craven, Chief Medical Officer, Fort Monroe." Postcard number: 60143.
