|
Description |
Japanese Garden in Maymont Park, Richmond, Virginia, circa 1915-1930. Caption reads: "Japanese Garden in Maymont Park, Richmond, Va. Mr. and Mrs. Jas. H. Dooley, who gave beautiful Maymont, formerly their home, to the city as a park, imported several Japanese landscape artists to plan and work out this beautiful section of the park known as the Japanese Garden. It covers a wide area, near the flowing James. Several miniature lakes, islands, grottoes, pergolas and many beautiful specimens of evergreens and blooming shrubs help to make a most charming picture. From the top of the overlooking hills it is a veritable fairy land at any season of the year." Postcard number: 62779-C, 105X.
