Henry Clay Statue, Capitol Square, Richmond, Virginia, circa 1907-1914
|
Description |
Henry Clay Statue, Capitol Square, Richmond, Virginia, circa 1907-1914. Caption reads: "Beautiful and Historical Richmond, Va. Series. No. 82. Henry Clay Statue, (Capitol Square,) Richmond, Va. This marble statue of the author of the 'Missouri Compromise' was executed by Joel T. Hart, a native of Kentucky, and unveiled April 12, 1860. It is said to be an excellent likeness of Clay, though the uncouth habiliments which clothe the figure (perhaps a too faithful rendering of the style of the period) rather detract from a proper appreciation of the artistic value of the effigy." Postcard number: 42889.
