The Farquhars' local guide standing next to a statue of King Merneptah. Materials from the "Photographs, 1864-1953" series from the Brooke Family papers. Description on reverse reads: "'Luxor -- Statue (diwite)(sic) of King Meneptah who expelled the Israelites (Exodus), according to the guides. He felt it was most important we have a shot of this king to show back home. So we acceded.' From correspondence collections; folder #41 (item no 2) 1953 Trip by R. B. Farquhar." This photograph was originally part of the "Correspondence, 1815-1954" series from the Brooke Family papers, Box 5, Folder 9, titled "To Mary F. Green and 'Falling Green' -- From Roger Brooke Farquhar, Jr."
