UMD Student Newspapers

The UMD Student Newspapers database is the product of a collaborative fundraising effort to digitize and make searchable the major student newspapers produced on UMD’s College Park campus throughout its history. Student newspapers are an invaluable resource for tracing and understanding the history of the university as seen through the eyes of its students, especially when that history is related to communities who have been historically ignored, underrepresented, and misrepresented in the archives. At present, the database contains issues of the following publications (click the title to learn more about each periodical):

  • The Diamondback and its seven predecessor papers, January 1, 1910 - December 15, 2014
  • Black Explosion, May 1970 - December 2015/January 2016
  • The Eclipse, September 16, 1985 - May 2013
  • Expression, October 23, 1989 - January 21, 1992
  • Ha-Koach, February 1, 1976 - May 4, 1983, and Mitzpeh, September 14, 1983 - November 5, 2015
  • Hanoori, November 1, 1990 - December 1, 1992
  • Public Asian and three predecessor papers, September 13, 1991 - October 1, 2013
  • La Voz Latina, September 1, 1987 - April 1, 2011
